Red Bull have been crowned the 2023 constructors’ champions in Suzuka after Max Verstappen won the race ahead of both McLaren drivers.

This is their 2nd constructors title in a row and their 6th overall.

Lando Norris took his 4th podium of the season after he finished 2nd place in front of his teammate Oscar Piastri who took his maiden F1 podium.

The safety car came out to clear debris after a collision with Valtteri Bottas, Alex Albon and Esteban Ocon at the start and at the restart Verstappen was able to stay in front of Norris and began to build a gap between himself and the rest of the field.

Charles Leclerc finished 4th despite briefly thinking he was fighting for a podium during the race after he mistook Sergio Perez for the leader Verstappen.

Perez’s race took a weird turn after he went into the pits to retire but with a 5-second penalty to his name, the team decided to send him back out to serve the penalty before retiring the car again.

Lewis Hamilton was able to perform an undercut on Carlos Sainz but was unable to help his teammate the same way the Ferrari driver had done for Norris the week before.

George Russell was unable to hold off Sainz during the closing laps of the race because of his old hard tyres.

Fernando Alonso finished 8th after holding off both Alpine drivers who had a tense interaction. Pierre Gasly was let through on fresher tyres but was unable to move forward so was ordered by the team to allow Ocon back through.

This causes quite a few hand gestures and anger on the part of the newer Alpine driver.

In the end, Verstappen crossed the line under 20 seconds clear of Norris after Red Bull returned to winning after the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver goes to Qatar with a high possibility of winning the driver’s championship.
