After a close battle in the final few laps, Lewis Hamilton takes victory in Belgium following the disqualification of his teammate, George Russell. Russell’s car was underweight, and was therefore disqualified by the stewards after the race. Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium.
Piastri made great progress in the final laps to almost catch both the Mercedes’ cars. He was uplifted to second position with Russell’s disqualification. Leclerc started from pole, but was not up to pace with the other drivers. He finished in fourth, and was awarded third position after the disqualification.
After receiving a 10-place grid penalty due to exceeding engine allowance, Max Verstappen started in 11th position. Following behind Leclerc, Verstappen finished in fourth position. He continues to lead the Driver’s Championship standings, despite not winning the past three races.
Unfortunately for Stake driver Zhou Guanyu, his race was cut short when he started to significantly slow down on the third lap as a result of power issues for his car, forcing him to retire and return to the pits by lap five.
Lance Stroll for Aston Martin reported over the radio of his disappointment with the straight-line speed of the car, showing his frustration. Despite this Stroll placed 11th whilst teammate Fernando Alonso claimed eighth position behind the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez.
