The 2025 Formula 1 season continues with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, taking place from18th to 20th April at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. This event marks the fifth round of the championship, and promises high-speed action under the lights of one of the fastest street circuits in the world.
Circuit Overview
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is renowned for its rapid layout, featuring 27 corners over a 6.175 km track length. It’s the third-longest circuit on the Formula One calendar and boasts average speeds comparable to Monza, the “Temple of Speed” . The night race setting, combined with the track’s proximity to the Red Sea, offers a unique and picturesque backdrop for both drivers and fans.
Championship Standings and Contenders
McLaren has emerged as a dominant force this season, with Lando Norris leading the Drivers’ Championship standings, closely followed by teammate Oscar Piastri. Piastri, who has already secured two victories this season, including a win in Bahrain, aims to become Australia’s first championship leader in 15 years.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, a previous winner in Jeddah, seeks to rebound after a challenging race in Bahrain, where he finished sixth. Meanwhile, George Russell of Mercedes remains in contention, aiming for his first win of the season.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who both driver for Ferrari, are poised for strong performances. Leclerc, who secured a podium in Jeddah last year, is targeting another top three finish. Hamilton, adapting to the Ferrari car after his move from Mercedes, expressed optimism following a fifth-place result in Bahrain and anticipates improved performance in Saudi Arabia.

Track Modifications and Safety Enhancements
In response to driver feedback, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit has undergone several modifications to improve safety and visibility. Adjustments include the repositioning of walls at key turns to enhance sight-lines and the replacement of steel kerbs with smoother, bevelled versions to accommodate the current generation of Formula One cars. Additionally, ‘rumble lines’ have been added at specific corners to alert drivers when they are nearing track limits, promoting safer racing conditions.
F1 Academy and Emerging Talent
The F1 Academy returns to Jeddah for its second race weekend of the season. Doriane Pin leads the championship, with Maya Weug and rookie Alisha Palmowski close behind. Palmowski, who won the season opener in China, is considered a strong contender following impressive testing performances in Jeddah.
