Let’s take a look back at Scuderia Ferrari, its history as a team into Formula One and how it started and the beginnings of their highs in the sport.

Scuderia Ferrari HP, also known as “The Prancing Horse” is the oldest and successful Formula One team, who have been competing in Formula One since the start, in 1950. Scuderia is an Italian name for a stable reserved for racing horses.

Based in Maranello, Italy, the team was named after its founder, Enzo Ferrari. From 1929 onwards, he entered the Ferrari in various amateur races. Since debuting in 1950 at the Monaco Grand Prix, Ferrari have been the only team to drive in every single race of every single season since the Formula One Championship started.

Ferrari has 16 Constructors Championships, 253 pole positions, 263 fastest laps, and 249 wins in Formula One. They had their first win in 1951 at the British Grand Prix with their driver Jose Froilan Gonzalez. In 1952, Alberto Ascari won back to back Drivers’ Championships with Ferrari. By the late 1990’s, Ferrari had its form back by bringing in Michael Schumacher, who won the Drivers’ Championship in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, holding the record at the time for the most individual titles.

Ferrari supply their own engine in the Formula One series also supplying to other teams, such as Haas and Sauber. In 2026 Ferrari will be giving their engine to the Cadillac Formula One team on a multi-year deal, until GM PPU has a power unit ready, which was announced in December 2024.

Ferrari, keeping with their Italian roots, decided to choose a red called rosso corsa, the national racing colour of Italy. The only time Ferrari changed this was in 1964 at the United States Grand Prix and the Mexican Grand Prix, favouring white and blue lengthwise at these races. The Mexican Grand Prix in 1964 was the last time the colour was different.

Now, with drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari is looking to return to the form they had with Schumacher. How will they do this season in the fight for the championship?
