Scuderia Ferrari HP has announced that it has extended its partnership with Frédéric Vasseur. The multi-year contract means he will remain as Ferrari’s team principal for the coming years.
The Italian team remarked in a statement that Vasseur’s contract renewal “reflects Ferrari’s determination to build on the foundations laid so far”.
Vasseur joined Ferrari at the start of 2023, succeeding Mattia Binotto. His initial contract was due to expire after the 2025 season. Following the renewal, he will oversee the Scuderia’s development and return to the top in the coming years.
Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna had this to say: “Today we want to recognize what has been built and commit to what still needs to be achieved. It reflects our trust in Fred’s leadership — a trust rooted in shared ambition, mutual expectations and clear responsibility.”
“We move forward with determination and focus, united in our pursuit of the level of performance Ferrari has to aim for,” he added.
“I’m grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me. This renewal is not just a confirmation — it’s a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver,” Vasseur says.
Vasseur’s time at Ferrari
Vasseur inherited a team with a lot of issues, ranging from the car to operational processes. Under his leadership, however, Ferrari has slowly but surely seen improvements.
They were the only team aside from Red Bull to win a race in the 2023 season, with Carlos Sainz Jr. winning in Singapore. In 2024, they almost beat McLaren to the Constructors’ Championship title.
The team principal was also instrumental in recruiting seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to the Scuderia.
However, the 2025 season has been difficult so far. Hamilton is slowly finding his footing, having won one sprint race, but he has yet to climb onto the podium halfway through the season. While his teammate Charles Leclerc has had more success, gaining five podiums, they still have a long way to go.
Although the 2025 season isn’t shaping up to be the one they had hoped for, Vasseur remains optimistic about the team’s progress. According to Leclerc, he has been making changes to the personnel and even the team culture for the better.

The beginnings
Vasseur has been involved in motorsport for 27 years, having started out as the ASM team boss in 1998. Through his work with drivers such as Paul di Resta, Jamie Green, Romain Grosjean and Lewis Hamilton, he has become associated with numerous regional Formula 3 championships.
He then formed the ART Grand Prix GP2 (now Formula 2) team with Nicolas Todt. The team won two titles, in 2005 with Nico Rosberg and in 2006 with Lewis Hamilton. ART Grand Prix also joined the GP3 series (now known as Formula 3), winning six championships with drivers including Esteban Ocon, George Russell and Charles Leclerc, who are now in Formula 1.
Vasseur then moved up to Formula 1, progressing from managing Renault Sport to becoming Sauber’s team principal and CEO of Sauber Motorsport.
He hasn’t stopped there, though, as he is still involved in the petrol side of motorsport. His company, Spark Racing Technology, has been the official chassis manufacturer for both Formula E and Extreme E since their inaugural seasons.
His many years of experience in managing racing teams and companies prove that he has got the necessary skills to manage an iconic, long-standing team such as Ferrari. But will this be enough to end Ferrari’s almost 20-year championship drought?
Hopes for the future
Over the last month, Vasseur has been under intense scrutiny from the Italian media regarding his future at the Scuderia. However, with the announcement on the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, it has been confirmed that he will remain with the Prancing Horse.
With the regulations set to change for the 2026 season, Ferrari will require stability more than ever. It seems as though they recognise this, too, by making this decision.
“Over the past 30 months, we’ve laid strong foundations, and now we must build on them with consistency and determination,” says Vasseur.
The Frenchman also made a promise: ‘We know what is expected of us, and we are all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together.’
