As teams travel to Texas this weekend for the United States Grand Prix, The Fastest Sector looks back at the history of the legendary Circuit of the Americas and ahead to what we can expect from this weekend’s race. With its inspired track design, the first race of an eagerly awaited double-header, and one of only three remaining sprint weekends, Austin is sure to deliver plenty of thrilling twists and turns – literally.

Singapore Success: McLaren On Top

The tarmac of the Marina Bay Street Circuit played host to McLaren’s historic win in the Constructors’ Championship. Although neither Lando Norris nor Oscar Piastri managed to secure a first-place finish, their 3–4 finish was enough to hand McLaren the constructors’ trophy for the 2025 season. If past performances are anything to go by, McLaren is set to continue its winning streak throughout the rest of the season, starting this weekend.

Ferrari: Will Expectations Become Reality?

With Mercedes and Ferrari competing for second place in the Constructors’ Championship, the drama is far from over. After Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz secured first and second place respectively in Austin last year, all eyes are on this team to see if they can win again. However, Mercedes’ George Russell and Kimi Antonelli are also ones to watch, having secured first and fifth place respectively in the Singapore Grand Prix. George Russell is also in a close battle with Max Verstappen for third place in the Drivers’ Championship, with just thirty-six points separating the pair.

The Latest Overview

With only six races remaining in the season, let us take a look at the current drivers’ championship standings. Oscar Piastri is currently in the lead with 336 points, closely followed by his teammate Lando Norris with 314 points. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is in third place with 273 points, and Mercedes’ George Russell is in fourth place with 237 points. While McLaren’s constructors’ victory is set in stone, anything could happen between the top four as the season nears its end.

The next race takes place in the United States this Sunday 19 th October, at 20:00
BST.
