It is the kind of news every Formula 1 fan has been anticipating. Red Bull Racing
and their sister team Racing Bulls have officially revealed their driver line-ups for the
2026 season, bringing an end to one of the most closely watched off-season sagas
in recent memory.
Four-time World Champion Max Verstappen will be joined at Red Bull Racing by
French driver Isack Hadjar for the 2026 Formula 1 season. Meanwhile, Racing Bulls
will welcome rookie Arvid Lindblad alongside Liam Lawson, while former regular Yuki Tsunoda transitions to a reserve role across both teams.
The announcement comes just days ahead of the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand
Prix, where Verstappen is locked in a thrilling three-way battle for the Drivers’
Championship with the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Hadjar Rewarded After Stellar Rookie Season
Hadjar, 21, has been handed the opportunity of a lifetime after just one full season in
Formula 1. He impressed at Racing Bulls, scoring points in ten Grands Prix and
achieving a maiden podium at the Dutch Grand Prix. Known for his composure under pressure, rapid adaptability, and strong race craft, Hadjar has demonstrated all the qualities Red Bull looks for in a driver. His promotion fills the seat vacated by
Tsunoda and pairs him with Verstappen, giving the team a mix of proven experience
and fresh talent.
Reflecting on his move, Hadjar said:
“I’m so grateful to Oracle Red Bull Racing for giving me the opportunity and trust to
race at the highest level of Formula One. After all the hard work I have put in since
joining the Junior Team, it’s such a great reward. I’ve had many ups and downs
throughout my career, and they kept believing and pushing me.”
Red Bull Racing CEO and Team Principal Laurent Mekies added:
“As for Isack, in his first F1 season, he has displayed great maturity and proved to be
a quick learner. Most importantly, he has demonstrated the raw speed that is the
number one requirement in this sport. [We believe Isack] can thrive alongside Max
and produce the magic on track. 2026 will be a huge challenge [and] these are
exciting times.”
Lindblad and Racing Bulls: A New Era
At Racing Bulls, 18-year-old British-Swedish driver Arvid Lindblad will make his
Formula 1 debut alongside Liam Lawson. Lindblad has progressed rapidly through
the junior categories, winning the Italian F4 Championship, establishing himself as a
front-runner in Formula 3, and delivering strong results in his rookie Formula 2
season.
His performances earned him a special FIA super licence exemption, allowing him to
compete in Free Practice 1 at the Mexico City Grand Prix, where he finished in sixth
place.
Lindblad said:
“I’d like to thank everyone at VCARB for the opportunity. Since I started this journey
at five years old, it was always my goal to be in Formula 1, so it’s a proud moment to
take this step.”
Lawson, who retains his seat after stepping in midway through 2024 in place of
Daniel Ricciardo, has been a consistent performer for Racing Bulls this season. He
has impressed with his adaptability and race craft, scoring points occasionally and
helping the team remain competitive in the midfield. Lawson added, “I’m really looking forward to racing with VCARB in 2026. It’s an opportunity I’ll continue to be grateful for [as we enter a year of change]. I’m ready to get to work with the team [for the challenging season ahead].”
Racing Bulls Team Principal Alan Permane commented:
“Firstly, a huge congratulations to Isack. He has delivered a truly outstanding season, demonstrating exceptional race-craft and consistency well beyond his experience. He has fully earned his step up to Red Bull Racing, and we wish him nothing but the best as he takes on this exciting new challenge in his career – we are proud to have been part of the journey.”
End of an Era for Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda, who has been a regular on the Formula 1 grid since his debut in 2021, will leave the Red Bull race seats but remain with the organisation as a reserve driver for both Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls. After five seasons in Formula 1, Tsunoda has experienced a rollercoaster career with Red Bull, from impressive rookie performances to a challenging 2025 campaign where he struggled to consistently match the pace of his teammates.
According to Red Bull Racing CEO and Team Principal Laurent Mekies:
“Yuki has raced in Red Bull colours for seven years now [and] matured into a complete racer. [He] has become a very special part of the Red Bull family. “Everyone in the sport would agree it is impossible not to like Yuki, his personality is
infectious, and he has become a very special part of the Red Bull family. On behalf
of everyone at Red Bull, I thank him for what he has contributed so far and we know
he will provide invaluable support to the 2026 projects moving forwards.”
In his reserve role, Tsunoda will continue contributing to car development, simulator
work, and mentoring Red Bull’s junior drivers, including Lindblad, while remaining
available as a stand-in if required.
2026 Grid Locked
With Red Bull and Racing Bulls confirming their line-ups, Formula 1’s 2026 driver
grid is now complete, with Cadillac joining to make it 11 teams under new chassis and power unit regulations. The selections combine youth and talent with experience, ensuring that Verstappen’s proven championship-winning abilities are paired with the raw potential of Hadjar, Lindblad, and Lawson. The move signals a strategic balance of continuity and renewal as Red Bull aims to remain at the very front of the grid while nurturing the next generation of Formula 1 stars.
Before the focus turns to 2026, there is still one last task: the season finale in Abu Dhabi, where Verstappen could secure a historic fifth consecutive Drivers’ Championship in a thrilling showdown with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
