Marcus Armstrong has put an end to speculation surrounding his IndyCar future after signing a multi-year contract extension with Meyer Shank Racing, ensuring he will remain with the Honda-powered outfit beyond the 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
As part of the new agreement, the New Zealander will move from the No. 66 Meyer Shank Racing with Curb Agajanian Honda into the team’s No. 60 entry from the 2027 season onwards. The announcement is one of the first major driver confirmations ahead of the 2027 IndyCar silly season and demonstrates the faith Meyer Shank Racing has placed in one of the championship’s most promising talents.
Armstrong’s Breakthrough 2026 Season
The extension comes during what has been Marcus Armstrong’s strongest season since arriving in IndyCar. After continuing to build on the foundations laid during previous campaigns, the 26-year-old has established himself as a consistent front-runner, capable of competing across every type of circuit on the calendar.
Currently sitting 12th in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES standings, Armstrong has recorded a number of standout performances throughout 2026. His best finishes have come with a pair of fifth-place results at Phoenix and the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, while his performances on the oval circuits have been particularly impressive. The New Zealander currently ranks sixth among all drivers in oval points, thanks to those two top-five finishes alongside a ninth-place finish in his three oval starts this season.
Armstrong’s development from F2 to IndyCar
Those results have highlighted a major step forward in Armstrong’s development. Although he first made his name in European single-seaters before moving to North America, he has adapted quickly to oval racing—something many international drivers take several seasons to master. The Indianapolis 500 proved to be one of the defining moments of Armstrong’s season. Battling through the field against some of the series’ biggest names, he delivered one of the strongest drives of the race to secure fifth place, underlining both his confidence around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Meyer Shank Racing’s continued improvement as a team.
However, it was Road America that perhaps best illustrated just how close Armstrong has come to taking his first IndyCar victory. After showing impressive pace throughout the weekend, he found himself firmly in contention for the win before mechanical problems in the closing stages ended his hopes. While the result was disappointing, it reinforced that both driver and team are now genuine contenders for victories.
That growing competitiveness made the decision to remain with Meyer Shank Racing a straightforward one. Speaking after the announcement, Armstrong expressed his gratitude to the team for placing their trust in him and explained why he believes the partnership can continue to achieve success.

Armstrong also highlighted that both he and the organisation share the same ambitions as they look towards the future.
“Our goals are aligned. We want to win races and be consistently fighting at the front. I especially look forward to returning to the Indy 500 having unfinished business from this year.”
Although the contract secures his future beyond this season, Armstrong made it clear that his focus remains firmly on the remainder of the 2026 campaign before attention turns to 2027.
“We still have eight races left this season and we have some strong momentum going. I’m ready more than ever to close out this season on a high note and start prepping for 2027.”
