As the resident American here at TFS it’s only right that I share my experiences at the most American Motorsport: NASCAR!
The Ambetter 301 is a race held in Loudon New Hampshire (under a seemingly new name every year) and this year I was fortunate enough to experience it live.
My experience started Saturday where I started my 2 and a half hour road-trip from Boston up to the track to catch Cup qualifying and see these monstrous cars out on track for the first time live.
Later in the afternoon held the Xfinity Series race which was filled with drama including two disqualifications after the race which was won by Justin Allgaier in exciting fashion.
After the Xfinity race there was a bit of a break before the Modified Race that would end the night so in typical fashion I went on the hunt for food (the American way) and thankfully I didn’t have to go far to find any. For just $12 I got a cheeseburger, fries, and what seemed like a dangerous amount of sprite, overall it wasn’t terrible but it was definitely not the greatest food ever (but it redeems itself later don’t worry).
Upon arriving back at our seats it was the start of the Modified race which was the final event of the night and possibly the most exciting race of the day, the field was made up of mostly local drivers and was 100 laps around the 1 mile oval. The race ended with the two leaders crashing out into each other and the driver that was sitting in 4th would take the victory by less than a car length.
After all the excitement of Saturday it was time to head back for the night and do it all again on Sunday.
Sunday saw me leaving at roughly the same time but the race would be slightly delayed due to rain which meant time for another good review, this time going to an actual restaurant that was set up at the track and for $20 I got a Buffalo chicken sandwich that could seemingly feed a small family and yet another sprite (it’s not a problem unless you make it one) and unlike Saturday’s food, this was worth every dollar and was by far the best food of the weekend.
Following the delay racing started and just like that 100,000+ people in attendance cheered as the green flag waved and 301 laps of racing started.
As a Bubba Wallace fan this race was great, his team finally put all the pieces together and he drove out of his mind, as for the rest of the race, it surpassed expectations with the racing being better than it’s been at the magic mile in over a decade.
Young Toyota driver Christopher Bell would go on to win with Bubba coming home 2nd.
Overall, my experience was incredible, from hearing the 40 v8 engines fly by, to the excitement of watching fun racing, the weekend was truly unforgettable and an experience that anyone in or visiting America should experience. Thank you for listening!
