Bio:
Born in Florida, USA, Logan Sargeant has brought American representation back to the grid since his debut season in 2023. Racing in car number two for the Williams team, Sargeant has had a rather tumultuous experience in Formula One thus far. At an early age, he moved to Switzerland with his family. This made his career somewhat easier as he could then race on the European circuit. He has talked about how this change was difficult but ultimately pushed him to grow in ways he otherwise would not have.
History:
With last season being Sargeant’s rookie year, there were high expectations. The paddock was nervously excited to see what an American driver could do in Formula One. His entrance was somewhat overshadowed, however, by Oscar Piastri and the saga surrounding his seat for that season (2023 was also Piastri’s rookie year). In previous categories, Sargeant shone/ He was runner up or third place overall in multiple lower Formula series and also won karting championship titles.
He raced as a member of the Williams Driver Academy in 2022 for his debut Formula 2 season driving for Carlin. Despite finishing fourth in the championship Driver Standings, having gained Super License points from wins and podiums during this season, Sargeant achieved the points requirement needed to race in Formula One.
However, the 2023 F1 season was not fruitful for Sargeant. He finished 21st in the Drivers’ Standings. He scored one point throughout the season at the United States Grand Prix. It was not announced until December that Williams were keeping the driver for the 2024 season.
Current Performance:
Sargeant has struggled this season. He has experienced many issues on track, some his own fault and others beyond his control. Controversy arose at the Australian Grand Prix, where Sargeant was forced to withdraw from the race so that his teammate, Alex Albon could use his car. It has been made clear through this, and through other instances, that Sargeant is very much the second driver in the eyes of his team. He currently has zero points in the Drivers’ Championship and holds 21st position.
Future:
Sargeant’s future is unclear. Although no official announcements have been made, it looks increasingly unlikely that he will be retained by Williams for the 2025 season, and no other team has shown public interest in him as of yet.
