History

Hamilton debuted with McLaren in 2007 alongside Fernando Alonso. He finished third in his first race and won his first Grand Prix in Canada that year. He missed out on winning the Drover’s Championship by one point, finishing second.

He won his first World Driver’s Championship in dramatic fashion by overtaking Timo Glock on the last corner of the Brazilian Grand Prix, becoming the youngest Formula One World Driver’s Champion at the time.

Since then he has:

  • Won seven World Championships
  • The most wins in a single season: 11 (2014, 2018, 2019, 2020)
  • The most consecutive point finishes: 48 (2018-2020)
  • The most laps led: Over 5,000 laps
  • Over 4,000 points; the highest total in Formula One history
Current performance

Since 2013, Hamilton has driven for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team and is currently in his final year of his contact with the team. Just last weekend he won a final British Grand Prix victory as a Mercedes driver, also claiming the record for most wins at a single circuit with an impressive nine victories. If Hamilton continues his winning streak in Hungary next weekend, he’ll add to his tally there as well, making it nine wins at two different circuits.
