The second running of the Las Vegas Grand Prix delivered a thrilling night of racing on the iconic Strip, as George Russell claimed a dominant victory for Mercedes, marking his second win of the season. Starting from pole, Russell led from start to finish, showcasing exceptional control and pace on the revamped street circuit.
Behind him, teammate Lewis Hamilton impressed with a remarkable recovery drive, climbing from 10th on the grid to secure second place. The seven-time World Champion executed key overtakes and maintained strong race pace, finishing seven seconds behind Russell. Carlos Sainz rounded out the podium for Ferrari after battling early tire issues and overtaking teammate Charles Leclerc, defying team orders in the process.
Max Verstappen, despite finishing fifth, secured his fourth consecutive Drivers’ Championship title. The Dutchman called the Las Vegas track “special” after back-to-back memorable races in the city, signalling a change of heart from his initial skepticism of the event last year.
McLaren’s Lando Norris earned an extra point for setting the fastest lap, but could only manage sixth poisition. Nico Hülkenberg delivered an impressive eighth-place finish for Haas, while Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Pérez completed the top ten.
The race itself was a testament to the improvements made since the event’s chaotic debut in 2023. Organisers addressed infrastructure issues, and the smoother execution drew praise from drivers and fans alike. The event reaffirmed its place on the Formula One calendar, promising a bright future for racing in Las Vegas.
The next stop on the calendar is Qatar, where teams will continue to battle in the closing stages of the 2024 season.
