On lap two, Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli fought for 11th. Hamilton attempted to overtake Antonelli, however, he was unable to do so at this point. Charles Leclerc, in the other Ferrari car, was battling hard with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly. This caused Gasly to veer from the track, limping into P14.

One lap 11, George Russell and Lando Norris fought for third place. Russell was initially doing well, keeping Norris behind him, and remaining in the final podium place. Norris tried a variety of approaches to overtake, eventually getting by on the outside to take third position.

Against predictions of the pit wall, tyres were not lasting as expected. This meant pit stops occurred much earlier that expected. Cars were coming in to pit thick and fast.

Around lap 30, a Virtual Safety Car was deployed due to a slow moving car. The Haas of Esteban Ocon had stopped on the grass by the side of the track at turn eight. Having issues with his car, he was forced to retire from the race. A full Safety Car came out on lap 46, due to another slow car. Homeboy hero Kimi Antonelli had stopped in the same place Ocon had previously, also having to retire from the race.

On the final two laps, Alex Albon fought with both Ferrari cars in an attempt to stay in fourth place. After an error, Hamilton and Leclerc made it past the Williams car, but Albon managed to regain P5 from Leclerc, leaving the second Ferrari in P6.
