Movie Overview

In the 1990s, Sonny Hayes was Formula One’s most promising driver until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. 30 years later, the owner of a struggling Formula One team convinces Hayes to return to racing and become the best in the world. Driving alongside the team’s hotshot rookie, Hayes soon learns that the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.

Drivers’ Thoughts

Lewis Hamilton had some deeply felt words to say about the start to finish progress of the film along with how it felt to work with Brad Pitt. He complemented the talent in the film, and how it has brought more eyes onto Formula 1. His ex-teammate George Russell had similar sentiments.

Lando Norris had some words about being in the movie but also focused on the premier in Times Square. He noted the unique experience of it all. Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, discussed how he had to act for ten minutes and his excitement of seeing the finished job. Pierre Gasly noted the impact the film will have on aspiring drivers. Fellow French driver, Esteban Ocon, highlighted the importance of Lewis Hamilton in the production.

The only two drivers who didn’t see either private screenings or the premiere were Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

My Thoughts

I think this movie was a great way to get the Austrian Grand Prix weekend going. I was moving forward and backward out of my seat watching Apex GP racing and watching Hayes’ strategy go to a tee. It’s absolutely amazing; better than watching the trailer all over again.

My favourite detail of the movie is having David Croft, known as ‘Crofty’ and Martin Brundle commenting on each race, and also Roscoe Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton’s dog, having a cameo in the movie.

My favourite part of the movie is when Sonny Hayes tries to go past Kevin Magnussen but fails and gets a front wing problem, triggering a safety car. Here, Haas principal Günther Steiner mouths “what the ——“ to the Apex GP team principle.

The Fastest Sector Team’s Thoughts

Here is what we had to say about the movie. What we liked about the movie is the realistic racing; it was so immersive and had us on the edge of our seats. The music was, you can never go wrong with Hans Zimmer and the cameos – we know it’ll bring in new fans to share the love of the sport.

Here is what we didn’t like in the movie. The representation of women is a real problem. The team involved in the film could have done a better job portraying women within the sport. We question the need for romance, especially between a driver and a team member, in a movie about racing?
