Formula E has announced a new partnership with international education charity, Street Child to co-found the ‘Climate Response Accelerator Fund’. This fund has been established as a rapid-response initiative to rebuild schools in Sierra Leone damaged by extreme storms linked to climate change.

The West African nation of Sierra Leone is particularly vulnerable to the climate crisis. The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone reported that the poor suffer the most from these climate disasters, living in hazard-prone areas with inadequate support often hindering recovery.

The ‘Climate Response Accelerator Fund’ will enable urgent repairs to classrooms and school facilities in remote communities, helping thousands of children safely return to learning after storms and floods have destroyed or severely damaged their schools.

The CEO of Street Child, Tom Dannatt spoke in detail about the good this fund will be able to do. He said, “In Sierra Leone and beyond, climate-related disasters are leaving children without safe places to learn. This fund will help communities rebuild quickly and get children back to school where they belong”

Dannatt expanded on the partnership with the electric racing series stating, “This fund is an exciting first step in taking our partnership with Formula E to the next level, and shows how the private sector can play a vital role in responding swiftly and meaningfully when children’s futures are at risk.”

This partnership builds on existing support from Liberty Global, majority shareholder of Formula E and long-standing partner of Street Child.

Since its inception in 2020 Formula E has been very vocal about climate issues, with campaigns like “Race Against Climate Change.” It is also the first global sport to be certified with a net zero carbon footprint, investing in certified climate-protecting projects in all race markets to offset emissions from every season of electric racing.

The CEO of Formula E, Jeff Dodds believes Formula E has the power to create positive change for the planet. Speaking on the collaboration he said, “Through this partnership with Street Child, we’re extending our commitment to sustainability beyond just the track, helping protect children’s right to education in communities already feeling the impacts of climate change.”

Dodds expanded on his hopes for this fund, and the potential Formula E has to help the planet. He continued his statement, “The Climate Response Accelerator Fund reflects what Formula E stands for: driving real-world solutions for a more resilient future. Climate change isn’t only an environmental issue – it disrupts daily lives, including education, and threatens opportunities for the next generation. Together, we’re acting to protect every child’s right to learn.”
