When Jaguar announced its entry into the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship back in 2016, they gambled on a young New Zealander to lead their charge. A decade later, that driver has defined the team’s identity and has etched his name into the history of electric racing. Mitch Evans has become one of the most successful drivers on the Formula E grid, and he’s ready for a new chapter in his career.

The early Years

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1994, Evans was built for speed. Mentored in his youth by racing legend Mark Webber, Evans quickly climbed the junior motorsport ranks. He started karting at just six years of age, winning a GP3 title and standing on the top step of the New Zealand Grand Prix at just 16 years old.

He then moved to the GP2 Series, where, on his first weekend, he became the youngest driver in the series’ history to step on the podium. After climbing the ladder of junior formulas, Evans decided to move further by taking a shot at electric racing.

Evans joins Jaguar TCS Racing

In 2016, the Kiwi joined Jaguar for their inaugural Formula E campaign in Season 3. There, he built a whole legacy, building arguably the strongest and most successful partnership on the Formula E grid.

The early seasons saw Evans put on a series of solid performances, with a fourth place on debut, a pole, and a podium finish. At the 2019 Rome E-Prix, he managed to capture his and Jaguar’s very first Formula E victory, later moving on to be one of three drivers in the fight for the championship. He unfortunately couldn’t grasp the title, but in the following years, Evans kept bringing podiums and wins home for the British manufacturer.

Rewriting the Formula E Record Books

Evans’ career is defined by incredible statistics. With over 130 race starts, he has secured his spot as the record holder for the most successful race winner in Formula E, boasting 16 career wins and nearly 40 podium finishes. In the 2024/2025 season, Evans also became the only driver in the championship’s history to win a race from the last spot on the grid.

He’s shown impressive speed and racecraft as the years went on, achieving wins in almost every season since joining Formula E. And this year is nothing short of sensational for him: he is currently first in the standings, with 128 points, 2 wins, and 5 podiums under his name.

Mitch Evans’ Story of Resilience

Despite his staggering win count and successful streak, the ultimate individual prize has eluded him more than once. Evans finished as the runner-up in both the 2021–22 and 2023–24 seasons, losing out in tense, dramatic finales that ultimately denied him the Drivers’ World Championship.

Yet, Evans was able to bounce back in amazing fashion. In 2024, his consistency and teamwork alongside teammate Nick Cassidy led Jaguar TCS Racing towards its first-ever Formula E Teams’ World Championship, a historic milestone for the manufacturer. This success came after years of difficulties and adjustments, as both Evans and Jaguar entered a new challenge and grew together to ultimately claim the biggest prize.

The end of an Era

The Formula E landscape shifted recently with the announcement that Mitch Evans will leave Jaguar TCS Racing at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. After a decade of shared history, the most iconic driver-team pairing in electric motorsport is coming to a close. As he prepares to step into a new chapter of his career, Evans leaves behind a solid legacy of success and absolute resilience, full of memorable moments that shaped his and Jaguar’s history.
