Spa has always been dramatic – from the rising and twisting turns and chicanes, to the events that happen in it. The 2026 Belgian Grand Prix definitely delivered in both F2 and F3. From red flags, safety cars, and standings shake-ups, this race weekend had it all.
Formula 2
Let’s look at what went down in Formula 2.
Sprint Race
Paraguayan driver Joshua Duerksen took the top step of the podium for the second time this season. This was his second win since Melbourne. He started in P4 and moved up slowly but surely before taking the lead from Rodin’s Martinius Stenshorne.
Duerksen and Invicta Racing sealed the win with a good restart on the penultimate lap, after a safety car was brought out by a spin from Josh Bennett.
This was Invicta’s third consecutive win at Spa, after last year’s win with Stanek and Fornaroli.
Completing the podium were Stenshorne in P2, and Beganovic in third place. While his winning streak was broken, championship leader Nikola Tsolov still brought home a good amount of points by finishing in P4.
The same cannot be said for his rival Gabriele Mini, who had to retire from the race.
Feature Race
Spa was truly Invicta’s playground, as Rafael Camara won the Feature Race, making it four wins in a row for Invicta Racing. In P2 was Thai driver Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak – his maiden podium finish in Formula 2. Tsolov completed the podium.
This podium was formed due to penalty drama. Alexander Dunne was supposed to be P2, then dropped to 4th place after getting a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits. Noel Leon suffered the same fate, dropping to P7, then ultimately getting disqualified from the race due to a guest inadvertently using a headset with a microphone fitted in the pitlane during the red flag.
We were glad to see that Laurens van Hoepen was okay after a heavy crash at the exit of Turn 9, which caused a red flag to clear the track.
Another unlucky driver was Gabriele Mini, to add to this unfortunate situation in the sprint. He was given a five-second penalty for clipping Bilinski in Turn 1 on the first lap. He finished fifth.
The Belgian Grand Prix ended with Tsolov still the championship leader, even though his winning streak came to an end, with 161 points. Next to him in the standings is Mini, with 134. Third in the standings is Camara with 125 points.
Campos Racing still tops the teams’ standings with 236 points, followed by Rodin Motorsport and MP Motorsport, with 165 and 163 points respectively.
Formula 3
Ladies and gentlemen, a view into the past…
Sprint Race
HiTech’s Jin Nakamura got his maiden F3 win in Spa with Rodin duo Brando Badoer and Pedro Clerot completing the podium.
Where are the championship leaders, you ask? Ugo Ugochukwu and Freddie Slater collided on the first lap, resulting in Slater’s retirement and damage to Ugochukwu’s car. The Campos Racing driver continued the race, but finished in 29th place.
Feature Race
Ugochukwu’s teammate Ernesto Rivera clinched his first feature race win and second win overall in his rookie season. With him on the podium were Vans Amersfoot Racing driver Hiyu Yamakoshi and Freddie Slater, who recovered after the collision in the sprint race.
Ugochukwu didn’t bring home any points this weekend. This meant Slater was only one point behind in the championship standings at this point. The title fight is as close as it can get.
