Formula E reaches the end of its Gen3 era this weekend, with the Season 12 finale taking place in London. The London E-Prix double-header is set to deliver plenty of action, with two titles still up for grabs. The Drivers’ title still has nine drivers in contention, while the Teams’ title is a battle between Jaguar TCS Racing, on 257 points, and Porsche, on 243, with just 14 points separating them. London will also mark the final appearance of the Gen3 cars, with Gen4 set to debut next season.
The Excel Circuit
The London Excel Circuit is unique, as it is the only circuit in the world to feature both indoor and outdoor sections. The layout is 2.086 km long, full of slow turns and two elevation changes. The circuit starts indoor with on a smooth surface that provides plenty of grip. However, the situation change when the drivers head outside, where they face highly abrasive asphalt.
As has been the case since its introduction in Season 11, the double-header will feature Pit Boost during the first race. Drivers will enter the pit lane during a window when their battery’s state of charge is between 60% and 40%, allowing them to add 10% to their battery charge. The second race, meanwhile, will feature the usual Attack Mode, with the activation zone located at Turn 16.
Who Will Be Champion?
With 58 points still on the table, the Formula E World Championship title fight includes 9 drivers. After dominating the standings for most of the season, only trading the lead with Pascal Wehrlein, Mitch Evans is now second. The Kiwi driver is on 144 points, just two behind Jake Dennis. After a brilliant weekend in Tokyo, the Andretti driver sits at the top of the standings. Dennis will aim to repeat his performance from 2022 to win the title in the final round of the season.
The German driver led the standings for much of the second half of the season. Unfortunately, a pointless weekend in China dropped him to third in the championship, on 141 points. He is closely followed by the reigning champion Oliver Rowland who has claimed five podium finishes and a race victory during the season, taking his total to 132 points. Edoardo Mortara, on 116 points, and Antonio Félix da Costa, on 113, cannot be ruled out either. Da Costa has settled in well at his new team and remains within striking distance of the title.
Further down the standings, Nick Cassidy, Nico Muller and Nyck De Vries still have an outside chance of winning the championship. In fact, it all comes down to their podium finishes and victory gained in the last round.
