Baku City Circuit is a hub for anticipation, unpredictability, and a high degree of
concentration from both drivers and teams alike. The circuit’s extensive periods of
straights followed quickly by sharp bends combine to form an intense and exciting
race accompanied by the spectacular landscape and visuals of Azerbaijan’s capital.
Post Monza reflections
Despite a disappointing and premature end to the Dutch Grand Prix, Ferrari
managed to bounce back from their double DNF at Zandvoort, with Charles Leclerc
finishing in 4th place, whilst teammate Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in P6. However, they lost their chance to secure a podium finish, which was secured by
Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Despite obtaining a double podium finish, McLaren suffered from pitstop issues during the Italian Grand Prix. Has the team learnt from their mistakes at Monza, and are they ready to tackle Baku with clear tactics and a stable plan? Will Piastri be victorious at Baku once more?
One year on from his Baku Grand Prix victory in 2024, where he beat Ferrari’s
Charles Leclerc by an impressive 10.910s, Oscar Piastri has travelled across the
track from strength to strength, and is currently leading the 2025 drivers’
championship. Will he be able to successfully defend his title on the streets of Baku
for a second consecutive year?
The Latest Overview
McLaren’s domination of the 2025 season continues to persist, with the team having secured 12 race wins and counting, and commanding an impressive lead of 617 points in the constructors’ championships. Ferrari currently maintain second place at 280 points, 337 shy of McLaren, with Mercedes in third with 260 points.
Similarly, McLaren’s drivers also command the standings, with Oscar Piastri taking
the lead with 324 and 7 race wins, with teammate Lando Norris on his tail with with
293 points and 5 wins. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen closes in on Lando Norris with
230 points, making the championship battle still all to play for.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix looks to be an epic and intense battle, taking place on
Sunday 21st September, 12pm BST, at Baku City Circuit.
